Asus V2Je Review

he Asus V2JE has a very clean design, it will appeal to business users.
The color of the laptop is primarily a dark grey and a carbon fiber
black which gives the notebook a contemporary look. The laptop has
silver accents which mimic the similar Asus V1JP model. There is a
silver trim around the lid, the edge of the chassis and around the
touchpad.



My initial impression of the laptop was that it would be fit for a
business user looking for styling, good performance, and a swivel
webcam and fingerprint reader. The design is very inviting, and once
you open the laptop, you see a very clean design. The webcam draws you
in, and also the silver accent around the touchpad with the fingerprint

HP Compaq 6515b Review

The 14.1-inch widescreen display with a standard 1280 x 800-pixel
resolution isn't the brightest we've seen but is fine for an office
environment. The onscreen images looked great from all but the most
extreme angles. The system's ATI Radeon X1250 graphics chip produced a
decent 3DMark03 score of 1,397, which means the HP Compaq 6515b can
handle most graphics well but will stumble with 3D gaming. The notebook
lasted just 2 hours and 11 minutes on our DVD rundown test. When
running basic business applications, you'll likely see three hours, but
not much more. That's about an hour less than the average time seen on
previously tested thin-and-light notebooks. We recommended purchasing
the 8-cell battery ($129) that will provide up to six hours of power.
If all-day endurance is what you need, HP offers a 12-cell battery
($179) that churns out a hefty 16 total hours of battery life.



It's easy to stay connected when you wander outside of hotspot range
thanks to a choice of EV-DO Rev. 0 or HSDPA mobile-broadband radios.
While connected to Verizon's 3G network, we downloaded Firefox and saw
an average connection speed of 187.2 Kbps, which is disappointing but
decent enough for checking e-mail and browsing the Web. The HP Compaq
6515b aced our Wi-Fi tests, however; it produced stellar scores of 18.7
Mbps from 15 feet and 17.4 Mbps from 50 feet. Those who are looking for
the next generation of Wi-Fi will be happy to know that the 6515b

Voodoo Envy HW201 Review

The HW201 certainly looks the part of a luxury machine. The Bavaria
Blue Candy automotive quality paint job (one of 22 colors available) is
flawless, as is the 1680 x 1050 pixel screen. It delivered a sharp,
clear picture with rich, saturated colors and excellent motion video
reproduction. The panel's viewing angle performance was the best we've
seen from all angles, meaning you can place it on a coffee table and
everyone will have a good view.



The full-sized keyboard and number pad were very comfortable to use, as
were the smooth touchpad-painted the same color as the chassis-and the
large brushed-silver mouse buttons. Although there are four dedicated
buttons for the webcam, Bluetooth, e-mail, and browser, there are no
dedicated multimedia control buttons, though there's clearly plenty of
room for some. The deck-mounted speakers and internal subwoofer deliver
plenty of volume and bass response-perhaps the best we've heard on a
notebook.



The HW:201 also has a full contingent of ports, including five USB
ports, FireWire, S-Video out, DVI jacks, and more. There's a Type II PC
Card slot as well as a 7-in-1 card reader. Voodoo includes its own
disaster-recovery software, as well as the Roxio Easy Media Creator 8.2
suite and CyberLink DVD 6.0. You even get a Func Industries

Toshiba Tecra 700CT Review

Toshiba choose to use a light gray design for the exterior of the Tecra
700CT. Light gray is the only color on this machine and there are no
variations. I am personally very fond of the look – it looks
professional and I like the consistency. I used to get compliments
wherever I took this machine, but that was during the mid-90s. In more
recent years while in public view, I have been either accused of
robbing a museum or questioned about why I was using a typewriter.



The machine is made entirely of plastic and the plastic used is quite
thick. It, unlike cheaper plastic, is dyed all the way through so it
will not show wear and tear. There is no flex evident on the machine
and it is solid all around. The screen is solid as a board and shows no
ripples when pushed from behind.



The Tecra 700CT features an 11.3-inch standard-aspect display with an
800x600 (SVGA) resolution. It is powered by a C&\1T CT65548 video
controller with 1MB of video RAM. In my opinion, the LCD display is a
welcome improvement over the traditional CRT. LCDs are expensive and

Acer Aspire 5050 Review

Much like the 5102WLMi, the 5050 features Acer’s folio design
with silver plastic and black trim. With the lid closed the size of the
‘folio’ is just a bit bigger than a typical file folder.
Dimensions are listed as 341(W) x 251 (D) x 35 (H) mm. I was able to
purchase a slim notebook bag and I’m quite pleased with its small
footprint. Unfortunately the silver plastic on top is easily scratched.
But the hinges on the lid feel sturdy. So sturdy in fact, that you need
to hold down the base to open the notebook. There is some flexibility
with the LCD, but nothing alarming.



The LCD screen is a 14.1” widescreen, with a native resolution of
1200x800 (WXGA). It is equipped with Acer’s CrsytalBrite
technology (glossy). Not having much to compare to, I can say that
images look good and the glossiness does make movies more vibrant. When
watching movies, I am able to detect a bit of response lag when
compared to my desktop setup. The horizontal viewing range is good, but
I have found myself constantly adjusting the display to find the right
vertical viewing angle. Applying moderate pressure to the LCD’s
back produces the typical ripple pattern.



There are approximately sixteen discrete contrast levels and while in a
dimly lit room I have found the maximum setting to be too bright. There
is a little bit of light leakage and it was only noticeable in a dark

Asus F5R Review

The laptop has a very simple look to it, certainly basic and
unsophisticated. The webcam draws attention due to its look and the
fact it can swivel. The lid is silver with a small indentation for some
extra styling. The bezel around the screen is black, while the webcam
that sits above the screen is silver. The palm rests are silver and the
chassis is black. The notebook is made of plastic, but that’s
what you can expect for a laptop targeted at the budget buyer market.
When I first saw the laptop it did look appealing. I lifted it and
moved it around and it definitely felt lighter than most other
15.4” notebooks I have tested.



Screen



The Asus F5R has a 15.4” screen, the resolution is 1280x800
(WXGA). The screen is pleasant to use and easy for viewing, personally
I am used to higher resolutions such as 1680x1050, but the lower

Alienware m5550i Review

Alienware is not a notebook vendor that you would typically expect to
see in office environments. That's not to say that Alienware doesn't
make notebooks that wouldn't fit into office environments as an
alternative to the drab notebooks that inhabit most workspaces.



The Alienware Area-51 m5500i is such a beast, one that wouldn't
embarrass you at a LAN party, as a business notebook, and one that also
would earn you more than a few second looks in an office.



If you're thinking you've seen a review on Tom's Hardware for the
Area-51 m5500i, you'd be correct. Back in December a reader wrote a
review of this notebook albeit with different specs than our current
test and without the benefit of GearDigest's testing lab environment.
In the first review the Area-51 m5550 was loaded with an Intel Core 2
Duo Processor (T5500) at 1.66 GHz, 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz (2 DIMMS)
