In my regular scouring of the internet marketing do's and don'ts, I
come across an endless sea of opinions, many of them contradictory of
other opinions by internet marketers and gurus. You may have seen
something like what I'm referring to. Some internet marketers will tell
you "Adsense is dead", while others assure you that "There's still life
in Adsense and other Pay Per Click programs!" One of the topics that
has come to my attention recently is regarding the use of articles to
raise the search ranking of your website and do some honest to goodness
SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

There are several aspects to SEO, of course. This article takes a
look at articles and how their content can be used to your advantage to
build your website popularity.

One opinion I've seen time and time again that has been trumpeted
by scores of marketers, and that has never been contested, is "search
engines love content." I'll go a step further and say, "Search engines
love original content."

If you want to see what I'm referring to, do a search under "article
sites" and see how many directories you pull up. Article directories
are out there in droves, keeping a large supply of articles that can be
(and usually are) used by people publishing ezines or adding content to
their sites. I've submitted articles to several of these sites for
free. Here's why submitting articles is a win-win situation:

Win for you: You get to include a "resource box" with your article,
which can be a link back to your website (or the affiliate site you are
promoting)

Win for them: ezine publishers need to come up with articles every
day/week/month. Webmasters want their proverbial "regularly updated
content." Article directories give them the ammo they need to keep
their updates regular and their content fresh.

Of course, this does mean you will need to write. If you like to
write already, great - get started! If writing is about as fun for you
as pulling your teeth with rusty jumper cables, all is not lost. My
suggestion is to look at sites like Elance (www.elance.com) and look
for writers on the topic you want to cover. Elance has a bidding
system, which allows you to post a project for bids and let prospective
writers bid on it.

Once you have your article written, you will need to submit it.
There is an endless array of article sites on the web. You can also
take a shortcut by trying an article submission tool. Here's one I use

Something else to remember - SEO will take awhile. Even if you have
submitted articles, you must give them time to make their way into the
hands of those people who will publish them on sites and on the web.

Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular ways of earning money on
the Internet. It offers a lot of advantages over other methods of
sales, including the fact that you don't actually have to stock any
inventory to make sales. As an affiliate, you only need to advertise a
product and direct the customer to the sales page for the product
itself, which is usually run by the retailer or creator of that
product. If the customer buys, you receive a portion of the sales
price, even though you didn't actually engage in a transaction or hand
over product. What could be easier than that?

While the concept may be easy, most people are lured into affiliate
marketing because of promises of making lots of money, rather than
making money easily. You don't have to search too long on the Internet
to come across a page that tells you that you can earn thousands of
dollars per day as an affiliate. While the mechanism is simple, it's
actually the promise of a huge volume of cash that tends to attract
people to this type of business. Many people are blinded by the big
numbers, however, and fail to realize how unusual it is to make huge
money as an affiliate right off the bat.

You can certainly earn money as an affiliate, but those who earn
the six figure incomes often have something going for them that most
people do not - a huge mailing list. Having a large group of customers
at the ready when a new product comes along is a large part of making a
lot of money in marketing. Those who have spent years developing a
large mailing list with ten thousand, twenty thousand or one hundred
thousand names can often make thousands of dollars just by sending out
a single e-mail advertisement. Such success is possible, but it comes
as the result of years of hard work. Advertisements along the lines of
"I made $30,000 in a week advertising product X" may technically be
true, but they often hide the unspoken "by sending e-mail to the
250,000 people on my list!"

Building a mailing list takes time. It isn't particularly hard, but it
is a vital component of making money through affiliate marketing. With
a large mailing list, you have a loyal, proven group of customers who
are eager to buy from you. This is far better than randomly trying to
get strangers to buy whatever it is you are promoting. Anyone who is
interested in trying affiliate marketing needs to take the promises of
huge, six figure incomes with a grain of salt and understand that such
results are not typical. That doesn't mean you can't make money, it
only means that you need to have realistic expectations of how much you
can earn right away. As long as you understand that you can't get rich
overnight, you will be OK.

necessarily mean that your trades are instantaneous. Limit your losses
in these fast-moving high tech markets by:

Guard against some of the most common problems investors encounter in fast-moving markets.

Market Orders vs. Limit Orders

When stocks drop or soar suddenly, being stuck in the process of
trading can mean the difference between making a sizable profit, and
losing a bundle. Delays can develop in fast-moving markets, slowing
down executions and trade confirmations. What you thought you were
selling at one price, may be end up selling for quite another. Avoid
buying and selling at prices higher or lower than you expected by
placing limit order instead of a market order. Limit orders are
executed automatically when they reach a set upon price, unlike a
market order which is filled at the price that second, not necessarily
the price set at purchase time.

For example, when you place an order for a $10 stock, placing a
limit order will ensure that you don’t end up paying $35. The
same is true for selling. The stock will sell when it hits the target
limit, eliminating sudden losses. The risk here is a loss of control to
hold certain stock just a little longer in the hopes that it will
continue to rise. Once it hits the selling target, it is sold.

Remember, Online Trading Isn’t Instantaneous

Trading online can feature its own dangers. Problems with modems,
servers, or delayed broker-dealer hardware can all cause a delay or
failure in an immediate stock trade. Know what trading alternatives
your firm offers (telephone, fax, etc), in the event a technological
problem interrupts your transaction.

Avoid Double Buying/Selling

Too often investors mistakenly think that their order did not go
through and place another order. This can cause them to buy stock they
did not want, or even sell stock they did not own in the first place.
Be sure to check with your broker on what to do if you aren’t
sure if your trade has gone through.

Choose the Best Broker

Buying and selling in a fast-paced market takes a broker
who’s capable of handling transactions quickly. There are no
Securities and Exchange Commission rules that require any trade to be
executed in a specific amount of time. Finding a broker that
doesn’t delay is up to you, the investor. Take your time and
research brokers carefully in order to avoid losing important assets
unexpectedly.

For little to no money, you have just established yourself as an

I’m pleased to offer the following adsense keywords that target
22 hot niches and potentially paying out high to very high average
Earnings Per Click (EPC). The key word here is “average”
EPC. Don’t be fooled by keyword lists that show very high 1st
Bidder rates as Google only sets the rate at 1 cent higher than the 2nd

Networking marketing is still a fantastic business model to provide you
with an additional income stream should business slow down. With the
emergence of internet based network marketing opportunities the chances

quite the geek!) and Success University is an alternative to coaching
for people who can't afford it, or for people who just need a
"maintenance" program to keep them focused. But I don't only promote
these products I use them too.

There are many benefits to running your own network marketing
internet based business and I will be talking alot about them over the
coming weeks because I believe in it's power as a business model. It
has certainly kept my head above water over the last few months as I
gave up coaching to focus on building my online business Women Internet
Marketers.

believe in the power of developing income streams from many sources

Can Mark Warren's Ultimate Wealth Package take out Derek Gehl's Internet Marketing Center?.::. http://internet-celeb.blogspot.com/

I have been watching the traffic stats on Mark Warren's Ultimate Wealth
Package and they're climbing rapidly this week. I got interested in the
Ultimate Wealth Package a few weeks ago primarily because they seemed
to be pulling in so much traffic. It is said that the three keys to
selling Real Estate successfully are: Location Location and Location.
Likewise the three keys to selling on the Internet are: Traffic,
Traffic and Traffic. I've worked for years with another successful
Internet marketing group called the Internet Marketing Center. If you
haven't heard of them you either haven't been doing your homework or
you're still new to the Internet.

Derek Gehl's Internet Marketing Center sells a number of popular
Internet marketing courses and software tools. Their flagship marketing
course "The Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet"
can be be compared with Mark Warren's "Ultimate Wealth Package". Both
teach you how to market on the Internet. Both can be sold via affiliate
programs for similar commissions. Both claim to know and reveal the
Internet's most guarded traffic driving secrets to make your business
successful.

I have to say that I was originally attracted to the Internet Marketing
Center by the late Corey Rudl. He was a very competent at the mechanics
of website building. Being an engineer myself, I felt some affinity for
his successful techniques. Unfortunately, he died a few years ago in a
tragic accident while pursuing another of his great passions, auto
racing. One of his apprentices Derek Gehl took over the reins of the
site. IMC has remained a top competitor for many years. Their website
traffic rankings have been consistently high and they have exhibited
real staying power for over 10 years now.

The real question is whether Mark Warren's Ultimate Wealth Package is a
fad that will flash to the top of the rankings and then sink or whether
it has real substance and staying power like the Internet Marketing
Center. i.e. Does Mark really know some secrets IMC doesn't? Only time
will tell but this is certainly an interesting trend to watch play out.

Do not underestimate the importance of having a good ebook internet
marketing strategy. It will make or break your success in terms of the
number of copies your ebook sells, and the revenue and profit you
ultimately receive from sales of your ebook.

With that in mind, here are eight vital components for your ebook internet marketing strategy.

1. Set up a Web Site

The first and most important weapon in your ebook marketing arsenal
must be a web site containing a sales page for the ebook. This needs to
be a page dedicated to information about your ebook only. It is even
better if you set up a dedicated domain name and site for the ebook.
Now that web hosting packages are available for just a few dollars a
month, and you can get a package allowing unlimited sites in one
package, I strongly recommend giving your ebook its very own site.

Your sales page should be well-designed and contain plenty of
information about your ebook. This information should include features
and benefits to the readers, and of course, testimonials from your
satisfied customers. And if you expect to have credibility with
potential customers, your sales page needs to be free of little errors.

2. Build Your Own Mailing List

If you don’t already have a mailing list and your own newsletter,
start one. You may already have heard that, on average, people need to
see a marketing message seven times before they will take action and
place an order. A newsletter is a great way to keep your message in
front of your audience on a regular basis, and at the same time you
will be building up their trust in you as they get to know you and the
quality of your information.

You might send out a regular newsletter - for example monthly or
weekly - or you can set up autoresponders to automatically send
messages at specific intervals. An autoresponder can send a given
message at a specified number of days after the subscriber signed up to
your mailing list.

3. Sell Your Ebook Through ClickBank

Why use ClickBank? There are several reasons why I recommend that you consider selling your ebook through ClickBank.

First, ClickBank is a very experienced partner to have when selling
an ebook. That’s what they specialize in. There are already
10,000 publishers and authors selling information products using their
system. But there is something even more important than the number of
publishers. It’s the number of affiliates. ClickBank have an army
of 100,000 affiliates ready to ‘jump on your bandwagon’ and
start promoting your hot new ebook.

Second, ClickBank has a neat payment processing system. If you use
ClickBank you will not need to set up an expensive merchant account
with your bank in order to accept credit cards online. Setting up a
publisher account with ClickBank costs just $50 or so.

Finally, ClickBank works neatly in conjunction with your own web site
and newsletter. You simply add the special links given to you by
ClickBank into your newsletter and web site, and whenever anyone clicks
through your order link, they will be taken to a professional order
form where they can pay using their credit card or PayPal.

Whenever one of ClickBank’s affiliates refers a visitor who goes
on to make a purchase, ClickBank automatically tracks which affiliate
referred the visitor and pays their commission.

4. Article Marketing

Article marketing involves writing articles and making them available
for webmasters and editors to publish. The greatest exposure usually
comes from listing the articles at article directories such as
EzineArticles and IdeaMarketers. This allows anyone to publish the
article without any fee to you, the author, provided they include your
'Author Resource Box' at the end of the article.

To promote an ebook successfully using article marketing you should
write articles on topics closely related your ebook. Your author's
resource box should be a small paragraph or two about you including a
direct link to the web page for your ebook.

Besides being a good way to generate traffic, article marketing is a
great technique for increasing your brand awareness. As people read
your articles at various web sites they will begin to recognize you as
an expert in your topic.

5. Pay Per Click Advertising

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is one of the quickest ways to
drive traffic to your ebook’s sales page. It is certainly not the
cheapest source of traffic, but it is probably the most effective
technique to guarantee a large quantity of traffic, fast.

With Pay Per Click advertising you bid the maximum price that you
are willing to pay for each visitor that clicks on your listing and
comes through to your site. The more you bid, the more likely your
listing will show. Many webmasters obtain traffic for $0.05 to $0.15
per click.

One good thing about PPC advertising is that unlike other forms of
advertising, you only pay for visitors who actually click through your
link and visit your site. Compare that to traditional advertising where
you pay a set price for the ad regardless of whether you receive any
response.

6. Regular Advertising

Regular classified advertising is a form of advertising which is
particularly common in newspapers and magazines. Many online ezines and
email newsletters offer classified advertising spots. Advertising in
these can be one of the best sources of targeted traffic, since you
have the ability to select those newsletters with an audience that most
closely resembles your own target audience.

If you know the email newsletter or mailing list is a very good
match, consider sending a solo mailing. A solo mailing is a special
mailing sent to all the subscribers containing only your message
promoting your ebook. It will cost more than regular advertising within
a newsletter, but you’ll get a much higher response rate.

And don't dismiss offline classified advertising. It is possible to
run a classified advertisement in an offline publication such as a
newspaper or carefully targeted magazine and get an excellent response
of people checking out your ebook.

7. Profit Sharing

Consider approaching other web site owners and offering to allow them
to sell your ebook directly from their web site. You should arrange in
advance how the profit will be shared. I usually ask the other web site
owner to pay me fifty percent of the revenue from my ebook sales. The
web site owner usually loves it because they will have a new ebook to
promote, and after they pay their own payment processing fees, they
should still be able to keep 40 to 50 percent of the revenue.

There you have it. Seven proven ebook marketing techniques for
promoting your ebook. You might not choose to use all seven, but you
should be using at least five or six of these. Some of these techniques
involve using third-party tools or resources. If you are interested in

they will make an enormous impact on the sales of your ebook.

Timeless Marketing Truth: When Headlines Really Draw, Who Needs Pictures?.::. http://internet-celeb.blogspot.com/

“A great title is a work of genius,” said E. Haldeman-Julius in the 1920s.

Haldeman-Julius sold 200 million (really) of his “Little Blue
Books.” His headlines were his product, because he sold his books
by the title. About halfway through his brilliant marketing career he
wrote a book called “The First Hundred Million,” in which
he shared some of his secrets…

EHJ had a system. If a title didn't sell over 10,000 copies
in a year, it was sent to a place in his office called "The Hospital"
to be given a new title. And if the new title bombed, then it went into
"The Morgue." As an example, "Art of Controversy" didn't meet his
10,000 copy quota. The title was changed to: "How to Argue Logically"
and sales soared to 30,000 copies. He changed nothing about the
book—just the title.

Haldeman-Julius discovered that certain words could increase the
sales of almost any book. In 1925 "Patent Medicine" sold a measly 3,000
copies. Haldeman-Julius changed the title to: "The Truth About
Patent Medicine" and sales rose to a respectable 10,000 copies.

EHJ found that the words "The Truth About" had some sort of magic. But
far and away the best was “How To.” “How to
Psycho-analyze Yourself” out-sold "Psycho-analysis Explained" and
"How I Psycho-analyzed Myself" almost four times over. He found that
the words: Life; Love; Sexy; Romance; Self-improvement; and
Entertainment also worked well in titles. Small changes in his titles
resulted in massive differences in sales.

Has the crafting of learning-laden and benefit-promising headlines
gone out of style? Gary Halbert was a copywriting legend of recent
times in the way that EHJ was in the ‘20s. Here’s what he
said: “Go read a copy of ‘The First Hundred Million.’
It is where I learned my magic words… the ones that make copy
SIZZLE and my headlines impossible to ignore.”

In the “Information Age,” facts drive the internet.
Think that’s new? Good old EHJ found that “The Facts You
Should Know About…” was a massive hit again and again. The
more things change, the more they stay the same. Yet so many
advertisers run any headline at all, or no headline at all, because
their creators think it's trendy or clever. Seldom will such an ad
succeed.

Arguably, the most famous headline of all time was written by John
Caples: "They Laughed When I Sat Down at The Piano—but When
I Started to Play...." This ad was written for the U.S.
School of Music and people are still copying it today. Caples was a
past master of the headline that promised both learning and
benefit—and of copy (and products) that delivered them.

Maxwell Sackheim was a great ad writer from E. Haldeman-Julius’s
era. His most famous headline was “Do You Make These Mistakes in
English?” You may well have seen that classic headline before,
but you almost surely don’t know that the first draft was
“Are You Afraid of Making Mistakes in English?” See how one
word changed the product from boring to
exciting—“these.” That one demonstrative pronoun
promised specific information and real benefits.

Introduction

We all think differently. We read different books, listen to different music, and have different opinions on things.

Yet with our websites, we often develop the voice, copy, and style with
what we want and how we do things. What about the customer? Chances
are, the customer won’t feel and do things the same way you do.
The site must be client-centric and visitor-focused.

Keep the customer in mind and construct a website that leads the
customer to buy your product or service. Your copy and design will grab
the attention of the right visitors and get them to act.

So, when the customer hits your site with the obvious question of
‘what’s in it for me?’ You’ll grab their
attention if you’ve constructed a website that considers their
wants and speaks in their voice. You’ve got to know what the
customer wants to hear, and how they need to hear it to make the sale.

“But”, you say, “I’m me. How can I write
copy or talk in a way which appeals to another person voice and
style?” The answer is to understand your customer and speak to
them personally. It can be a little like dealing with Jekyll and Hyde,
but once you’ve get the knack of it you’ll find that split
personalities are easier to handle than you think!

Personality types

Take the following different personality types:

An easy going likes a personal approach. They will ask the question
“Why is your product the best?” To satisfy the easy going
person, provide reassurance and opinions. These personalities are
humanistic in nature so testimonials and such appeal to them and may
help them move through the conversion process.

An analytical person is all business and detail oriented. They are
disciplined, and will ask you “How does your product differ from
others?” For analytical people, provide evidence. A simple
paragraph explaining your products will not suffice, you need to give
this personality type in-depth information about your process, details
about your products/services, etc.

A spontaneous person likes brief, to-the-point answers! The
expressive person will ask “What are the benefits and how can
this (product/service) help me?” For this person, you need to
display the points, give them the reason to buy your products or
services, and help them convert right away by placing call to actions
throughout your copy.

An assertive person is powerful and strategic. They will want to
know “What can your product do for me and why is it the
best?” This personality is competitive in nature and always wants
the best, wants to know why it’s the best, and wants to see the
advantages of your service/product over the rest. For this include
person comparisons, assurances, and satisfaction guarantees.

The method

“You mean I have to write different copy to suit all these
different personalities?” Don’t panic, not at all. With
careful thought, you can combine the approaches and come away with
something for everyone. Take a look.

methodology to discover how hundreds of clients have been satisfied.
Our solutions include:

•Traffic builder designed to drive more online visitors to yoru site.

Different types of people will all find something here they like.

•Easy going, humanistic personalities will identify with the ‘hundreds of clients’.

•Assertive/competitive people will like the ‘guaranteed results’ and satisfaction guaranteed.

Something for everyone, pretty easy concept. However, before
imploring this technique, you must identify who your clients are. The
majority of your clients may be analytical and spontaneous in nature,
so you would have to try to appeal to them mostly. Identify with your
customer and they are more likely to complete the sale, so start
appealing to their personal side. Remember, the site must be
constructed for them, not you.

How To Find Free Advertising Vehicles That Work:: internet-celeb.blogspot.com

I get this question a lot. “Can you tell me great sites to
advertise on for free (or very little) money?” In the early days
of my home business career I followed other people’s advice and
advertised on the free and low cost ad sites they recommended.

Frankly, most sources, especially from popular teachers that have
training sites, are useless. These free advertising sites may have been
great sources when the teachers found them, but after thousands of
their pupils started advertising on them as well, (often promoting the
same opportunity) they’re pretty much useless.

The free advertising sites on how2succeedonline.net are much
fresher since I am constantly searching for new ones that have enough
traffic to deliver good results like CraigsList, Ablewise, Myspace, You
Tube, Adpost, Squidoo, Backpage, Ideamarketers and more.

Today however, I will teach you a technique that I use to find free
advertising sites that haven’t been so beat up with overuse. In
essence, I’m going to show you how to fish for free advertising
vehicles that will give you a constant stream of fresh, new advertising
venues with less competition.

This is so simple it will blow your mind…which is, of course,
true of many of the most successful techniques. By the way, I found
many of my favorite ad sites this way!

Let’s start by typing in “Business Opportunity”
into Google Search or any search engine you prefer. You can use the
keywords that you currently use to promote your business (i.e.
“make money online”, “Home Based Business”,
etc.). You can even do a search for the keyword of the opportunity you
represent like “EDC Gold” “PWF” or “1Step
System”, etc.

Then I look for optimized search results that appear on the left
side of the page (not the pay per click part of the page). As I go down
the page, I look for ads that are part of forums or ad sites.
You’ll find several ads on the top three pages that are
ad-posting on third party sites offering advertising vs. company owned
or opportunity sites that just talk about their product, service or
opportunity. Many of these sites offer free or low cost advertising.
And best of all, Google has found these sites and elevated their index
(so they appear on pages 1-3 of the search results), even in highly
competitive areas where popular keywords are used.

You’ll find more quality sites than you know what to do with, just with the use of a few keywords.

Next, place your ads on several of these sites. To maximize your
response, make sure your ad is keyword dense (lots of keywords repeated
throughout the text of the ad). If you do, not only will you benefit
from the traffic that advertising site produces, but you’ll also
benefit from the very high listing on Google and other search engines,
which will boost your traffic by possibly hundred fold.

Another technique you can try is typing the words “Free
Advertising Help” into Google. It’s not as good as my first
recommendation, but still better that joining other team members and
advertising on the same pages being used by thousands of direct
competitors.

The 7 Figure Code Rant

This is a rant about the 7 figure code product which was just launched
amougst all the hype and flood of autoresponder emails most of us "non
guru" internet marketers must have recieved from the "gurus" these last
couple of days.

Dont get me wrong here, i respect Mike Filsaime and his products
greatly. I have a copy of the Butterfly Manuscript and its good stuff.

The 7 Figure Code sounds outstanding and nothing I have come across
before. I understand business is business and we are all in it
fundementally to make money and to be successful. What im a little
dissapointed about is why isn't this product available to those
affiliates who could really do with promoting something like this?

At the moment every successful "Guru" and his dog has emailed me
with their extra added bonus and little hyped up story and sales pitch!

So by my reckoning by letting those already rich and successful promote
this (and probably many other) top notch products it lessens the
competition, corners the market and distributes all the cash earned
from this to those select favorable few.

And when the hype has died down and the lions share of the MAJOR
money has been made for those already with more decimals in their bank
balances than the number Google (he he, see what i did there!) those
not so fortunate to have a beach house in Malibu can fight over the
remaining few who are interested in purchasing this product.

I know this game is a "them" and "us" business, even though "them"
do there very best to convince us they care with an arm around the
shoulder and an affiliate link in the other hand! (with a freebie
insentive of course!)

Listen im not begrudging the success of those who are successful,
not at all. I have the upmost respect to anyone who has earned a kings
ransom in this business, because its the hardest thing in the world to
fire ones self out of the 98 success circle. Kudos to all who do it.

But once in a while it would be a nice to get one of the first
bites at the cherry instaed of being left with the bits that stick to
the stone.

Well I gotta go.....i have just been emailed as I write this
telling me I have missed out on the chance to get the aforementioned 7
figure code, but if i "act now" then maybe i will still be in with a
chance...!

....I think ill wait..........!

I promote products as an affiliate and although some of the sales
pages are cheesier than a dairy farm, I try and only promote those I
think are worth the bandwidth they are hosted on (before anyone jumps
on me, I am only human and make mistakes too!) So if anyone who's
anyone is reading this....

.......please take one eye off your paypal account and listen :-)

How to Write Persuasive Copy for Company Brochures

When it comes to selling your products and services, many companies
miss a trick when it comes to writing the copy for promotional
brochures. This is because many businesses pack their glossy,
well-produced brochure with just the key features of their latest
offers and new solutions, without actually selling the benefits of what
it is they're offering. Far from getting inside the client's mind and
thinking about what they need, most company brochures make the fatal
mistake of ‘focusing on information instead of persuasion' (1).

A brochure is a sales document. It must present the reader with a
compelling solution to their specific needs in a clear and consistent
voice, using language they will find appealing. The tone of the copy
shouldn't be focused on your own company, but on the customer and their
requirements. You should also be clear on where the brochure sits
within your marketing mix, and adjust the tone accordingly. For
example, is it designed to close the deal or sell a meeting? It's
important to think about who will be reading it and what you want them
to do next.

Once you've established your market, key benefits and required tone
of voice, you need to consider the structure of your brochure. It's
useful to work with the designer on this part of the process, so you
can coordinate the length of copy needed and what sections it will be
divided into. You can ‘bolt on' copy into a design, but it's
better to work on the two in tandem as the results will appear more

of voice, establish credibility (using relevant testimonials if they
complement your message), and create enticing, page turning reasons for
buying your products and services, then your readers will feel
compelled to act.

The final part of the process, therefore, is prompting your
customers to actually ‘do' something with the persuasive copy
you've put before them. A point also frequently missed in many company
brochures. A strong ‘call to action' is essential if you don't
want all your hard work to go to waste. If you want the client to meet
you, then ask them. Equally, if you want the customer to place an
order, tell them to order now and give them several options on how to
do it.

If you take some time to understand your customer's requirements,
and structure your copywriting to meet these needs in a coherent and
persuasive way, (always selling benefits not features), then your next
company brochure will achieve the really positive results you are
hoping for.

Embrace Your Automaton

Many people can and have made a few dollars online or in the offline
network marketing world. However, many people do not make the really
big money. It's not that difficult, it's about applying the two best
friends you can ever have, that is the leverage known as duplication
and automation.

Anyone who does any form of network marketing knows all about
leverage, after all that's what building your downline is all about.
Even though they know they need more people there is a tendency among
many network marketers to ignore the additional leverage afforded them
by duplication. In this instance duplication doesn't just mean teaching
your downline then marketing system, but it means keeping track of
every effort you make, keeping track of which ones produce results and
duplicating those effort as often as possible. This means getting your
downline to duplicate these efforts as well.

When attempting to duplicate successful efforts you must first
start by meticulously documenting your every effort. You most know
which media did you use, phone, text ad, online ad, email ad, flyer or
business card. Where did you use it, which newspaper, parking lot,
forum or networking event. Who was your target audience old, young,
male, female, affluent or not. What day of the week was it. What time
was it. What was the weather like, I'm not kidding everything withing
reason you can thing of applies here.

Next you need to figure out not just how many positive results you
have had, but how much did each result COST you. Getting 100 positive
results is not so great if it costs you $2,000 a piece and you know
your lifetime payback is only going to be $500. That's not good roi.
However if you get 100 positive results and it only cost you $2.50 you
should be one happy camper.

After you have done the research and figured out what works for
your business you need to automate it. Automation does NOT mean
spending 23.5 hours of every day with a computer screen in front of you
and a headset jammed in your ear. If you spend that much time doing
something it doesn't qualify as automation in our sense. Automation is
a form of leverage, it is TIME leverage.

You can get automated and leverage your time by using a PC and PC
based programs to machine automate some tasks, by using pre-printed
materials, sales copy that is known to work for instance instead of
writing your own. You can also get automated by outsourcing to people
at reasonable rate of course those things you don't have to do
personally. Don't print out 25,000 mailers and lug them to the post
office if you can find a print shop or high school student who can do
this cheaply for you.

Spend your time doing the things that are most effective at getting
positive results for you. In the MLM world this means those things that
grow your downline. If you find what works and duplicate, then you
automate yourself to free yourself from mundane tasks you will have
unleashed some potent leverage. If you duplicate and automated you will
have embraced the successful network marketing machine, the leverage
automaton.

One last word these concepts like so many others in the marketing
world are powerful, but they only work to full effect if you apply them
liberally and consistently.

A Logo Without Your Name... Can Be A Big Branding Pain!

I often get asked to develop a small business's logo as a symbol-only
logo. But for many small businesses, this isn't the right choice for a
couple of reasons.

Designing a symbol-only logo is a much more complicated (and often more expensive) process, because the symbol has to:

- Carry a lot more meaning - there's no text to help explain the
business. It's important that your logo has some meaning and a role in
explaining your business - and that's a lot for a little symbol to do
all by itself.

- Be entirely unique all on its' own. I don't need to tell you that
there are a whole lot of logos out there. A lot of the basic shapes -
and even some of the more complicated ones - are already "owned" by big
corporations. But you can still use variations or combinations of those
shapes when they're designed into a logo with your company name.

- Communicate to your audience. The more obscure the symbol design
that you create, the less likely that your customers will understand
its meaning. Or they may interpret it incorrectly. Either way your
clients will feel alienated - and that's never good.

If you do create a symbol-only logo, you'll have a couple of challenges with your brand identity:

- It will take a lot more time and effort to educate your target
audience about your business. Think of all the symbol-only logos that
are really memorable, like Nike or Apple. The reason that those are so
memorable and well-known is that each of those companies has a very
large advertising budget. They can afford to dedicate people and time
to getting the word out. Their deep pockets build visibility and
encourage recognition. Small businesses just don't have those kinds of
resources.

- Trademark infringement can be more of a problem - from both sides
of the fence. It can be very difficult for your designer to design a
logo that won't look like any other trademarked logo out there,
regardless how hard they try.

1. First of all, it's hard for a designer to comprehensively
research all of the other trademarked logos just to see what you're up
against. However, the Trademark Office has more thorough tools and
methods of researching the other existing logos out there and they
might find one that you overlooked.

2. Secondly, logos and trademarks can be a bit subjective. Just
because you and your designer think that the design that you've created
doesn't infringe on other logos, the Trademark Office might reject your
application based on their interpretation of "similarity"

3. And you're not just worrying about what the Trademark Office
thinks. Any other business with an existing trademark could also
challenge your application. They can even ask you to cease-and-desist
using your logo after it has been trademarked if they held their
trademark to a similar logo first. While surrendering might not seem
like such a bad thing, remember that you'd also have to destroy any
existing printed collateral, forfeit your trademark (and the
trademarking process isn't cheap!) and redesign all of your materials.
You'll also lose the equity and memorability that you will have built
up in your logo if you do have to redesign.

If you do finally manage to design and trademark a symbol-only
logo, you'll have to be extra-vigilant about making sure that other
companies don't design a mark that's similar to yours. You are
ultimately responsible for "policing" your own trademark and will have
to stay up-to-date on trademark applications.

Alternately, you could hire someone to keep an eye on new trademarks for you but that can be expensive.

You can easily avoid all of these complications by designing a
combination logo that includes both a symbol and your company name.
Once you've designed your combination logo, you should always use the
components together. This helps avoid potential legal issues like those
mentioned above.

base. However, it is important that you not only email them, you should
also call them once in a while so they are reassured that you are a
real person. Sending out seasonal greetings is a great way to show that
you appreciate their business.

5) SEO- It is critical that you are up to date with the latest search
engine optimization (SEO). Popular SEO sites contain the most up to
date information on every aspect of online business. So search for them
in your favorite search engines, subscribe to their ezines and apply
what you have learned to your own websites.

It is a sure thing that your competitors are doing everything they can

Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing can be great media for
driving traffic to your web site. They can also, if you're not careful,
chew up a lot of your money and not produce enough leads. So how do you
manage them properly so that you get your money's worth?

Daily Limit

The first thing to know is that it is absolutely vital to set a
daily limit on both Google and Yahoo. This is a daily budget that
controls how long your ads appear each day. For example, let's say that
you want to spend $300 per month on Google. You set your daily limit to
$10 per day. Your ads will appear and people will click on the ads, and
each time they do, your account will be debited. Once it reaches the
$10 limit, then your ads will be shut off for the day. Without setting
this limit you can spend a fortune in just a few days. So definitely
use the daily limit.

Low Clickthroughs = Change Your Ad

If you are getting low clickthroughs, i.e. not enough to even use
up your daily limit each day, chances are that you need to change your
text ad. This is the ad that gets displayed on Google or Yahoo when
people enter the keywords you have selected. If you have market
research surveys done for your business, review these and rewrite your
ad to better reflect what the surveys show as what your public needs
and wants. If you don't have any surveys, go to Google and Yahoo and
enter the keywords for your campaign, and look at what other vendors
are saying in their ads. This will give you ideas on what to say that
might work better.

Once you make changes to your ad, make sure you record the change
and the date you made the change, in a folder. Then review the
statistics every couple of days and see how the new ad is doing in
terms of clickthroughs. Compare it to how the previous ad was doing.

Low Conversions = Change Your Landing Page

Once people click on your ad on Google or Yahoo, they land on a
page on your web site. This I cleverly call the "landing page." The
percentage of people that land on this page that actually do something
that you want, such as fill out the form to buy something or become a
lead, is known as the conversion ratio.

By the way, this landing page should NEVER be your home page. The landing page should be specifically set up so that it:

a. Does NOT include your standard navigational links to the rest of your site.

b. Contains sales text and pictures of your product or service

c. Contains a form at the bottom for people to either fill out the
form and become a lead (giving you their contact info) or buy something

Get the idea that your landing page should only give the person one
choice, i.e. to fill out the form and become a lead or buy something.
If you give them your whole navigational button structure on that page,
they will wander all over your site and the percentage of those that
will become a lead or sale will be MUCH lower.

Also, your landing page can offer some kind of free item, often an
informational product such as a "free report," something you can make
into a PDF and send to them for free. This usually increases conversion
ratios.

Often people ask me what kind of conversion ratio is good or
acceptable. I have gotten as high as 10% conversion, meaning 10 people
out of every 100 that come to the landing page do the desired action
such as filling out the form to become a lead. However, not every
campaign has that kind of potential. A lot depends on your offer, and
how well that connects with the public. Also the various markets using
Google and Yahoo paid search have changed a lot in the last 2-3 years.
I would say that a 2-5% conversion ratio is acceptable today. 10% is
really stellar.

Google vs. Yahoo

In the course of managing several paid search accounts for clients,
I have noticed within the last year that people going to Google tend to
convert to leads or sales at much higher conversion ratios than those
going to Yahoo. For this reason I actually recommend, especially to
people with limited budgets, that they start on Google. A few years ago
it was just the opposite. My theory on this is that the demographic of
people that go to Google is different than those who go to Yahoo.
Google just has that one line. Everyone going there is going to search
for something. Yahoo has news, sports, celebrity gossip, etc. So the
person going there is slightly different.

Bidding

On both Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing, in their online
account management interface, it will show you your ad's average
position. In other words, it will have a number like 1 or 1.7 or 2.5 or
63.7. This represents the average position your ad appears in for that
keyword. In other words, does it appear at the top (in 1st place), or
in second, or third, or way down the list?

Both Google and Yahoo use a very arbitrary and secret system to
determine your position, based on, first of all, your bid, and
secondly, your ad's "quality." The bid part is pretty straight ahead.
The higher you bid, the higher your ad will appear. That used to be the
only criteria that determined your ad's position on Yahoo, but they
recently changed their system to make it like Google, based on your bid
and also on "quality."

Your first question will likely be "What do they mean by
'quality'?" And you're right - that is exactly the question.
Unfortunately this is all very arbitrary and secret, which has the
effect that one tends to bid higher and higher to try to raise one's
position, which of course is great for Google and Yahoo as they make
more money. The quality issue is supposedly based on the idea that your
landing page is relevant for that keyword and contains good
information, and of course again, that's all pretty subjective and
arbitrary (i.e. based on one person's decision or judgment.

So my advice is not to worry much about the quality issue. As long
as your ad and landing page are relevant to the keyword that's pretty
much all you have to worry about.

As for bid levels, in general if you have a keyword that is getting
lots of impressions (number of times someone searches for that keyword
in a given time period) and your average position is low, i.e. below 3
let's say, then you may want to bid higher to move yourself up in the
ranks. But you also have to use judgment here, based on the current bid
amount and the price point of the thing you're selling. You obviously
can't afford to spend $3.00 per click if the thing you're selling costs
$10.00. Because not everybody who clicks is going to buy.

Another aspect of bidding which is helpful to know about, is the
phenomenon of the expensive keywords using up your whole budget
quickly. Take this scenario: You have 8 campaigns up on Google. Your
bid amounts are mostly between $1.00 and $2.00. But one of your
campaigns has a max bid amount of $4.00, because there is more
competition for those keywords. And those keywords get lots of
impressions. And your daily budget amount is $12.00, or $360 per month.
So you can see that 3 clickthroughs from your expensive campaign can
chew up your whole budget for the day.

Beware of this phenomenon, because your goal is to either get leads
or sales. And not every person who clicks through to your site is going
to become a lead or sale. So you've got to drive volume clickthroughs
to the site. So if a certain keyword or group of keywords has a much
higher bid level, you might want to skip them. Go with keywords or
groups of keywords that are more affordable. I have often found that
those expensive keywords are not necessarily the best ones for
conversions anyway.

Four Steps to Better Business Leads from Search

So you got a click on your PPC ad. Now what do you do? The job of the
B2B search marketer is only beginning when a prospect clicks. As
MarketingSherpa points out, the decision to click is microscopically
unimportant compared to all the things you are asking from a prospect
after they've clicked: Stick around and read your copy, fill out a
form, risk getting their privacy invaded, take a meeting, recommend
your product, make a purchase, and so on.

Without each of these following steps in place, a click is just a click, and a click by itself is a waste of time and money.

Optimized landing pages

A good landing page provides two main benefits to a PPC campaign.
First, search engines like Google care about the relevancy of the
landing page when ranking ads, meaning a high-quality landing page gets
better ranking (and more clicks) for less money. Second, a relevant and
optimized landing page can have dramatically higher conversion rates,
meaning you get more leads for your money. These two factors combine to
drive dramatic ROI for landing page improvements.

Despite this, few B2B marketers use landing pages to their fullest
advantage. According to Forrester Research, only about a quarter of B2B
search ads take the prospective customer to keyword specific landing
pages. The challenge is that landing page optimization requires
building and maintaining dozens of landing pages, one for each ad group
– and testing multiplies the complexity of the problem.

Lead analytics and scoring

Even if you do get a conversion, it turns out that only 25% of
conversions are sales-ready. You need the ability to find these hot
leads and pass them to your sales team as soon as possible, before they
get cold or a competitor contacts them first.

You can do this with lead scoring, which requires two kinds of
information: (1) demographic/behavioral and (2) lead source. Examples
of demographic/behavioral information include title, company, and BANT
criteria (budget, authority, need, and timing); examples of lead source
information include where the lead came from, what kind of offer
created the lead, and lead age.

Demographic and behavioral information represent the biggest
challenge for online marketers. The most obvious way to get it is when
the prospect fills out the registration form—but research shows
that every additional field on the form reduces conversion rates. A
more subtle problem is that the searcher is likely to be an influencer,
not a decision maker, and asking certain BANT questions can be
off-putting.

There are two main solutions. The first is called progressive
profiling, in which you get to know a lead over time by asking
additional questions each time you interact (kind of like dating). One
quick way to do this is to ask the prospect for additional information
on the thank you page after submitting the form. Prospects who make it
this far have expressed quite a bit of interest so they may be willing
to give you more data now that you've built trust by sharing useful
content.

A second solution is to use directed behavioral segmentation.
Rather than sending clicks to a single landing page, this approach uses
a "landing path" – a series of pages that collect information
based on how the prospect navigates.

Lead nurturing

If only 25% of leads are sales-ready, what do you do with the other
75%? Some of those prospects may be truly unqualified, but as many of
70% of them will eventually buy a product from you—or your
competitors. Prematurely passing this type of lead to sales is a recipe
for disaster. Since sales reps are compensated for driving short-term
revenue, a long-term lead like this creates the impression that
search-generated leads are no good. As a result, the sales rep is more
likely to ignore the next lead he receives—which is why reps end
up ignoring 80% of all search-generated leads.

The solution is to use lead nurturing, a disciplined
marketing-driven process of helping qualified prospects who are not yet
sales-ready move through their buying process. Lead nurturing is not
just sending a monthly email newsletter to your entire database, or
calling prospects every few weeks to see if they are ready to buy yet.
It is about progressively understanding more about the prospect's
needs, and using targeted one-to-one communications to build your
company's position as a trusted advisor.

The benefits of lead nurturing go beyond better sales-marketing
alignment and higher win rates. Research shows that prospects that are
nurtured buy more, require less discounting, and have shorter sales
cycles than prospects who bought but were not nurtured.

Closed-loop measurement

Once the lead is passed to sales, the B2B search marketer's job is
still not finished. Unlike B2C marketing, the time between the first
click and a closed sale can be weeks or months or even years. Also,
most analytic and search marketing solutions don't have automated
access to the CRM system (such as salesforce.com) to know which leads
become opportunities and ultimately generate revenue. This can make the
process of measuring success and fine-tuning the search marketing
campaign much more difficult.

There are two ways most companies try to solve this problem, both
unsatisfactory. The first is to ignore it and measure PPC success
solely on conversions. This is certainly easy to do because it is what
the search engines support, but it creates a significant disconnect
between marketing and the realities of what drives revenue for the
business—always an uncomfortable situation. The second approach
is to tie search marketing results to opportunities and revenue using
manual analytics. In other words, generate a report in Google, another
in salesforce.com, and spend a lot of time in Excel trying to tie
everything together. I'm sure this scenario is familiar to many B2B
search marketers. A better approach is to use analytics that automates
this process by unifying your search marketing data with your CRM data.

Crossing The Click Chasm

For too many B2B companies, there is a chasm between the campaigns
that generate clicks to a website and the activities that turn clicks
into customers. This chasm creates lower response rates, inadequate
lead follow-up, and poorly optimized campaigns. To succeed in B2B,
search marketing needs to become an integrated part of a complete
demand generation process that includes landing pages, lead analytics,
lead nurturing, and closed-loop measurement. Only by focusing on what
happens after the click will B2B marketers be able to ensure optimal
results for their PPC campaigns.

The Truth About Earning $1,000 or More Weekly From Affiliate Programs

Everyone is talking about them. Almost everyone is a member of at least
a few of them. Affiliate programs are hot. You can usually sign up for
free and be selling products within 5 minutes. The web sites, sales
letters, and order shipping are all done for you. All you have to do is
promote.

But...Is anyone making money from these programs except for the affiliate program owner?

It is a surprising statistic when you find out that only around 10% to
20% of affiliate members do enough to ever get a check. Then, only a
small percentage of those go on to earn really good incomes from
affiliate programs.

It isn't the affiliate program either. Although some affiliate programs
have pitifully small payouts (5% to 10%) and limit their members that
way, the real problem comes with the fact that affiliates have no idea
how to sell from their affiliate sites. The affiliate owners usually
don't have any idea how to help them either.

I own several affiliate programs myself, so I have spent a considerable
amount of time studying my top affiliates and the top affiliates in
programs all over the Internet.

The principles below are true of almost everyone of the top affiliates
in every program I have looked at. If you want to succeed and earn at
least $5,000 or more per month from affiliate programs, then you will
have to be following the five steps below. If you don't, it just isn't
going to happen...and you have no one to blame but yourself.

1. Create Your Own Web Site.

Although almost every program gives you a web site to use to promote
with, you really shouldn't be promoting with that site. The top
affiliates always have their own web sites which they promote from.
Then, they link to the affiliate program sites.

I never drive traffic directly to any of the affiliate programs. I
drive it to my site, get their name on my opt-in list, and then promote
affiliate programs. If you are serious about earning profits online,
then you will do the same.

Having your own site and linking to your affiliate program gives you some additional advantages as well:

* You can write up a short two to four paragraph endorsement and testimonial for the site yourself.

* You can generate subscribers to your opt-in list first (this is the key to Internet profits).

* If the affiliate program ever stops or changes your link, you still
have all the traffic you worked for at YOUR site (this happens quite
often).

If you don't currently have a web site, but want to earn through affiliate programs, you need to get one today.

2. Generate Traffic

You can't earn a single penny in any affiliate program without
generating traffic to your site. No traffic equals no income. Combine
the right ingredients of an opt-in list, good site design, and the
right sales offer...and your income will be directly proportional to
the targeted traffic you generate.

An advantage that I didn't mention above in why you should own your own
domain is getting listed with the search engines. The pages given to
you by your affiliate program owner aren't going to receive virtually
any traffic from the search engines. They won't have top rankings
because there are at least 1,000 other pages just like them (from the
other affiliate members) and many software programs create pages which
can't even be indexed by the search engines.

Having your own domain will give you the freedom to create web pages
which achieve high rankings on the search engines. Each of the major
search engines such as AltaVista, Infoseek, Hotbot, and the others have
their own ranking algorithms which change virtually monthly.

You can stay on top of them though by using a program such as Web
Position which actually monitors the search engines for you and helps
you prepare doorway pages which will achieve the top rankings you are
seeking after...and the traffic which comes from having those top
rankings.

Search engines are not the only way to build traffic to your site. You
can trade links with sites, place free and paid classifieds, and even
use banner advertising. There are dozens of ways to generate traffic.
If you want to make money from your affiliate programs, you will be
using them.

3. Start an Opt-In List.

I checked my affiliate members' checks this month and noticed a very
interesting trend. All top 10 affiliates have their own opt-in email
lists and are pretty aggressive marketers to those lists. They all mail
to their opt-in list at least weekly and the number one affiliate this
month mails to his list every single day.

That is where my income is coming from also. Over 90% of my income
comes through using opt-in email in one way or another...either through
my newsletters or through my autoresponders with follow-up. If you
don't know how to use email, then your always going to be living on
barely get by street in the online market.

The web sites which I send the most traffic to have one purpose to
them...and one purpose only...to sign them up on my newsletter lists.
All of the content that I have on my site is for that one purpose.

If you can't get a visitor to sign up for a free newsletter, then you
aren't going to be able to get them to fill out your order forms and
order. Get them on the list, and then start emailing them as often as
you can put out good content (along with the ads).

4. Develop a Unique Web Position.

Here is a trick to increase your sales from ANY affiliate program, but
people rarely ever mention it. Any successful web site finds a way to
make their products and or services unique from their competition.

When you are an affiliate though, you have thousands of competitors
selling the exact same product at the exact same price. Every other
affiliate in that company is your competition!

You will have to become unique if you want to beat the other affiliates
competing against you. You may think it would be difficult to do, but
it isn't.

All you have to do is add on some extra bonuses to those people who are
purchasing from you. For example, if you're an affiliate for a video
course, then add in a special free report on the same subject which is
ONLY good for those who order from you. Your free report can be emailed
to those who order so it won't cost you a penny of your commissions.

If you own an opt-in list like you should, you could give a free ad to
anyone who orders an affiliate product from you. For example, you could
write that anyone who orders the ________ (you would list the product
here) before midnight tonight will also get a free ad ($30 value) in
your newsletter...or three free ads. Buy submission software and submit
their site to 1,000 search engines if they order today.

Do something like this and tell your opt-in email list subscribers and
web site visitors about it. You will be setting yourself apart from the
competition and be giving your purchasers an even better deal than
buying from the affiliate owner!

Special limited time offers work extremely effectively when combined with your own opt-in list.

5. Generate Multiple Streams of Income.

If you follow all four of the principles above, then you are going to
be able to earn money from many different affiliates programs, and that
is exactly what you should do. You should join several non-competing
programs which sell products to the same targeted market.

For example, if you have chosen to sell to Internet marketers, you may join:

An Internet Training Program A Web Hosting Program An Autoresponder
program A Business Opportunity You can find several programs which
target any specific niche group.

You can be earning 3 to 10 streams of income from the same visitors at
your web site and subscribers to your newsletters. Having several
streams of income helps every visitor to your site be worth more money
to you!

Market Yourself with a Resume That Gets Results

Your resume should be like any good marketing plan — designed to
sell! It needs to hook potential employers as soon as they see it, so
they bypass the discard pile and take a second look. Creating a resume

Know the Market

Advertising companies do market research before they put together
an ad campaign. Why? Because they need to know who they're selling to
and what those people want. The same strategy should apply to your job
search. You have to know what jobs are available to know how to market
yourself to them. Scour the job boards and classifieds to see what's
out there, and know what kind of job you're looking for — finding
a job can be pretty tough if you have no goals or ideas about what you
want to do.

Target Your Resume

Determine which jobs you're interested in and target your resume to
each one. Don't submit the same version of it for every job you apply
for — change words and move things around so your resume uses
some of the same lingo as the job descriptions. Use keywords to
highlight your experience and accomplishments that best match those
sought for each job. Your goal should be to match the content of your
resume as much as possible to the qualifications and duties described
in each job notice.

Make It Stand Out

A visually appealing and easy-to-read resume gets attention. Skip
the fancy fonts, long paragraphs, and flowered stationary. Use as few
words as possible and make creative use of white space, bold letters,
sectioning, and bullets. A potential employer should be able to scan
over your resume quickly to determine if it deserves a longer look. You
want them to notice what's great about your resume, not the color of
the paper.

Shift Your Priorities

For each job you apply to, shift items around on your resume so
that the first thing any potential employer sees is exactly what
they're looking for. If they're specifically looking for someone who
speaks Swahili, put it at or near the beginning of your resume (as long
as you actually speak it, of course!) It's a simple strategy —
the things they want go first, the things that are less appealing or
less important to the job go last.

Highlight What's Important

Yes, you are multi-talented and of course, your resume needs to sum
up your skills and abilities. However, you don't need to list
everything. You just need to let them know what skills you have that
are assets for the job.

As far as your education goes, unless you're right out of school,
your degree doesn't need to be the first thing people see on your
resume. If you've been working for five years or more, list your
education last and focus on your skills and accomplishments. However,
if you're just starting out, it's perfectly acceptable to list your
degrees, as well as your GPA, courses relevant to your job search, and
any awards or scholarships you've earned.

Any special training you've completed should be included, so long
as it's pertinent to the job at hand (so skip the blurb about Clown
School if you're applying for an accounting job).

Share Your Story

Job history is important, but to highlight your experience that
best relates to the job, a chronological rundown may not always be the
best approach. You may want to consider emphasizing what you know
instead of what you've done, although in most cases, a job timeline is
more than adequate.

Accomplishments you've made on the job could be included in your
job history, or they could be highlighted separately on your resume,
along with off-the-job accomplishments and any special skills you can
bring to the table. Decide how you want to emphasize these aspects of
yourself so employers will notice what's most important to them.

Perfecting your resume can be tough, but it really does help to
think of it as a marketing tool. Know your audience and tailor your
resume to them each time. If you don't, you may not appeal to the
people who are reading it. With a little time and patience — and
perhaps a little extra advice — you can put together a resume
that's sure to get you in the door for an interview. The rest is up to

List Building: Get More Opt-Ins Today

Do you think of list building pages as a headline, a set of three to
five bullet points and an opt-in box? Most of us do. Yet, it's the
underlying factors that get people to join your list, factors that you
need to consider in order to make your list grow.

First, let's examine the headline. It has to tell readers, "What's
in it for me?" That old WIIFM element is so very important. If people
see no benefit from signing up for your list, why would they? What's in
it for you with this article? Obviously, that you'll get better results
from your list building pages and more people will sign up, right? So,
if that interests you, you move on and continue to read the article.
It's the same thing with your list building pages. If you write a good
WIIFM title, people want to know more about the information that only
you can provide, and they'll join your list.

But they still may not bite, if they aren't curious. Even a benefit
of joining may not get them to ask for one more email in their inbox
when they have hundreds flooding it already. Right? So, you have to
pique their curiosity. That goes back to our headline again for this
article. What actually made you read it? It's the how. I want more
opt-ins today, so how do I get them? If you knew that, you know you'd
have a list so huge no autoresponder could hold it. So, you're
wondering. You're curious.

Just don't go overboard with your title. Be specific and punchy.
What's that mean? Punchy is a quality that reeks of amusement,
interest, and curiosity all at once. Plus, it means short. It's like a
punch in the face because it hits you. Try to let potential list
members know what your list is about, without actually telling them.
For example: "3 Zero Cost Ways to..." whatever. Would that make you
wonder what great things you can get for free? "Zero cost" is another
way of saying free, but it's punchy. You see? Plus, that headline has
the "list" thing going for it, and those work very well. That's why
you're always seeing "10 Ways to..." or "5 New Things You Can..." and
on and on.

You're going to use the same techniques when writing your bullet
points, too. As Jimmy D. Brown often says, "Give them incomplete
information." Bullet points shouldn't be sentences or absolutely not
paragraphs. They should be quick, easy-to-read blurbs, like "Get
traffic to your site TODAY even if you're a traffic newbie" or "A few
simple skills that can multiply your profits up to 1,000 Times" There
is curiosity and implied benefit in both of those lines. Would you want
to know more? Don't they make you want to know the "how" even more? Do
the same thing on your list building pages.

Also include a sense of urgency. You'll notice in the title above,
I used the word "today," which implies that if you do the things I
recommend in this article, you'll have more opt-ins right away. Change
your "submit" button to read something better, too, like "order your
free subscription," or "immediate access." Anything that calls people
to action will work better than the plain old submit button.

Great list building pages are crucial to a great opt-in rate. If
you have no compelling copy, people just won't read and they surely
won't sign up for your list. Let readers know the benefits of being a
member of your list, but not the whole ball of wax. Make them wonder,
give them a sense of urgency, and draw them in to learn the "how." I'm
sure your opt-in rates will increase instantly, and if you do it today,
it will happen today. Don't put it off. Make your list building page
rock out loud!

Using Hand-Written Notes to Build Your Business

Recently, I attended a networking event for my company. The speaker
that night spoke about good networking practices. One of the practices
she referred to was making sure to follow-up with everyone you meet at
these events. She aptly referred to it as “pinging”.

The word “ping” takes its name from a submarine sonar
search -- you send a short sound burst and listen for an echo or a
“ping” coming back. So, in networking terms, when you send
out a ping, whether with an email, a phone call or a hand-written note,
you’re inviting that person to “come back” and
communicate with you thus beginning a relationship with that
person…one that will hopefully benefit you both long term.

I always make it a practice to send out hand-written thank you
notes to everyone I meet at these events. I like hand-written notes,
because they’re a physical manifestation of your company (your
brand) to that potential client, strategic partner or referral source.
A hand-written note sets the tone for your company. Hand-written notes
also differentiate you from most other businesses. Ask yourself when
the last time you received a hand-written note from someone you met at
a business setting was?

Quite simply, hand-written correspondence is a wonderful way to
build your business. When I say build your business, I am not just
referring to acquiring new customers. I am also referring to keeping
the customers you have!

According to a study conducted by the Technical Assistance Research
Project in Washington DC, 68% of customers leave because of
“perceived indifference”. In other words, customers
don’t think you care about their business. As Sir William Jones
said, “The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be
appreciated”. Our customers and clients want and need to be
appreciated, remembered and thanked.

Another great advantage in sending a personal note….people
tend to keep these cards. Whenever I receive a nice note from someone,
I display it one my desk for awhile. Every time I see the card, I am
warmly reminded of that person or business.

So, when should you send a hand-written card to someone? Here are a few suggestions:

* Every time you meet someone new and get their contact information
(i.e. a networking function, a business meeting, a training session, on
the plane, a social party, waiting in line at the grocery store, etc.)

* When a customer makes a major purchase from you or sends a referral your way.

* When you embark upon a joint venture with a new company.

Here are some other suggested but not mandatory times to jot a quick note:

* A birthday greeting to your clients and associates.

* A congratulatory note when you hear about something great that
customer or business associate did. For example, one of my customers
published a new book, so I sent her a congratulatory note.

* If you see an article that might be of interest to that client or associate, send them the clipping with a quick note.

* An encouraging note to members of your staff or team.

Remember, every card is a “ping”. It is likely that your message will echo back to you in some way soon!

Writing a hand-written note does not have to be a difficult exercise!
When networking, make it a practice to take notes about the people you
meet on the back of their business cards, so you have something to
reference when you go to correspond with them.

Hand-written notes should only be 3-5 sentences in length. In other
words, be short and to the point. If it is your first correspondence
with this person, remind them where you met and what you do for a
living. Thank them for taking the time to speak with you and perhaps
suggest another meeting. Make sure to enclose another business card.

Your personal correspondence should be written on high quality
stationery. Remember, your stationery represents your brand. If you are
a veterinarian for example, a note card with a cute dog might certainly
be appropriate. If you’re an image consultant, you might want
something more refined and sophisticated. Personalized note cards with
your name and/or company already printed on them are great for
establishing a consistent brand or image. Make sure to give your
correspondence that extra personal touch by hand-addressing the
envelope and using a real postage stamp.

Set aside some time every day to write your notes. I prefer to do
this practice at the end of the day. It gives me time to reflect upon
the day and allows me to give this practice my undivided attention. It
also helps me to end my day on a very positive note…energy which
transcends to the following day.

For remembering customer’s birthdays, I have created an Excel
spreadsheet with my customers’ names, addresses and birthdays.
Once a week, I refer to this sheet to remind myself of the birthday
notes I need to send out for that week.

Don’t get me wrong, emails, instant messages, phone calls and
the like are all wonderful communication tools! However, taking the
time to write a hand-written note really sends the message that you
care and you have taken the time to think about your relationship or
potential relationship with that person. Those 3-5 sentences can make a
mighty impact. And, that ping will come back to you in the mighty echo

A press release, or a media release as it is sometimes called, is a way
to make an announcement to the news media about your organization and
your web site. This could be a product release, a webinar, a new
version of software, a new section in your web site, the latest
financial results, a new strategic partnership and so on. The list is
endless.

Press releases are used by all the major companies to inform the
press about what is going on in the company. As you read on, you will
discover the different parts that make up a press release, how to write
them well and how to distribute press releases on-line including at the

A press release is made up of different sections. It starts with a
headline then there is a summary of the press release and then this is
followed by the actual contents and finally the contact information. A
well written press release can capture the attention of journalists and
get you good exposure. In preparing your press release you need to

The first part of the press release is the headline. The headline
is in title case. This Means You Capitalize Every Word Except for
Prepositions and Articles of Three Words or Less and Short. Ideally the

Next comes the actual text of the press release. This is known as the
body of the press release. The first paragraph, known as the "lead",
contains the most important information. After that you need to
remember that in a press release you need to keep sentences and
paragraphs short, about three or four lines per paragraph. The first
couple of paragraphs should cover the who, what, when, where, why and
how questions. The rest of the press release expounds on the
information provided in the lead paragraph. It includes quotes from key
staff, customers or subject matter experts. It contains more details
about the news you have to tell.

At the end of the press release you need to include a short back
ground paragraph about your organization. You then need to list the
contact person's name and phone number. You should include a phone
number so that journalists can contact you easily without having to
wait for your to reply to emails.

One very important thing to remember when writing a press release
is that you are writing for journalists and not for potential clients,
consumers or visitors to your web site. Journalists use press releases
as a starting point for a larger story or feature. Press releases
written as sales pieces will be completely ignored.

It can be very difficult to get your press release noticed by a
journalist. It is a sad fact, but many press releases are quickly
tossed in the trash without being studied. Journalists have deadlines
and a job to do. Press releases help them do that job, but unless your
press release stands out it will be in tomorrows garbage collection.
You need to get the journalists attention. The press release needs to
be good. It needs to contain news. And most of all it needs to be
